Tips for Trimming Your Dog's Nails

Updated: Jul 16, 2019

The process of trimming your dog’s nails can be a scary thought, but it is an important part of keeping your dog happy and healthy. Did you know that most dogs need their nails trimmed every 4 weeks?

Here are some tips that can help!

1. Touch your dog’s paws often. This will help get them used to their feet being handled, so when it comes time to trim their nails, they will be more comfortable.

2. Reward often. Whether it’s through using a positive voice during the process or giving your dog treats as you trim, this will help your dog associate nail trimming as a positive experience.

3. Don’t cut too far. Take it slow and just trim off small portions of the nail to avoid cutting the quick. A dog with black nails is tougher to see than a dog that has white nails.

4. Visit one of our professional groomers and sign up for our Where dogs rule VIP Premium Plan. Take the stress out of nail trimming by having our expert staff do it for you.
