Sarah's Teaching Lead® Methodology
Let's get started!
Use your new Teaching Lead® to:
- take the place of the crate when you're home.
- encourage good manners inside and out.
- teach everyday commands.
- resolve housebreaking, jumping, nipping and other annoying habits.
Here's the methodology
When I was but a pup myself (late teens) I rescued a husky-mix dog and named her Kyia. Coming from a shelter she was frightened and confused. She peed frequently, chewed things and clawed at doors when I left the room. Crating terrified her, so I kept her with me on leash and tied her by her blanket, with water and toys, when I had to leave. This interactive organization calmed her. Her mood changed, she stopped chewing things, and would greet me with her tail wagging, instead of under her body. The Teaching LeadŽ method was born.
Years later, I read about similar ideas in books by the monks of New Skete, Job Evans, and Carol Lea Benjamin. I was encouraged to know others used this technique and set out to design a leash that would make the methods available to everyone. Now you have it!
The Application
The Teaching Lead® can be used in three different ways: Leading, Stationing and Anchoring. All can be used interchangeably to train your dog, communicating leadership in a friendly fashion.
If your dog's mischievous when unconfined or just needs some brushing up, introduce him to the Teaching Lead® in the house. By helping your dog learn basic commands, you'll also encourage good behavior.

Are you using the right training collar? If you don't know consider your options by consulting one of my books, or ask your veterinarian. Until your puppy is 16 weeks, use a regular buckle collar/harness. If your puppy is not yet leash trained please reference one of the above sources.
